School Visits

We welcome school groups to explore the Vander Ende-Onderdonk House.

A MESSAGE TO SCHOOL EDUCATORS
As an enhancement to your early New York curriculum, we invite you and your classes to visit the Vander Ende-Onderdonk House. The history, location and contents of the house provide a rich educational and cultural experience for class and group visits.

Our school program is  geared to elementary grade levels and complies with New York State curriculum standards; special programs can be adapted for other grades. Activities usually include a tour of the house and grounds, and an 18th Century craft activity, although modifications to the program may occur due to time constraints, weather, size of group, etc.

Please note that the size of your group must be limited to 30 students or less (excluding parents and school staff). Larger groups will have to be split into separate days. We are accepting reservations for Tuesdays and Thursdays, other days are subject to availability.

Admission Fees:

Title I Schools - $150

Public/Charter Schools - $180

Private - $200

Special Needs Classes - $100 limited to 17 students or less (including parents and school staff)

For Reservations and questions, please email us Education.grhs@gmail.com

What to Expect

Our program runs from 10 AM-12PM, and includes a tour of the Museum (3 floors) and grounds (weather permitting) and a basic take home paper craft. Our curriculum covers 18th Century home life, basic architecture of our House, and New York history.

Students get to see the Onderdonk Parlor, which has been restored and decorated with 19th Century furnishings, as well as the 18th Century basement kitchen and the attic bedroom area. The Museum also features an exhibit room with revolving displays and a small gift shop with inexpensive items geared toward children.
