The Vander Ende-Onderdonk House, where history meets community!

Our Mission

The mission of the Greater Ridgewood Historical Society is to preserve the past and enrich our future through exhibits, events, and programming that engage with our community through history.

Our Beginning

Built in 1709, The Vander Ende-Onderdonk House is one of the oldest structures in New York City. Among the House’s past residents are the Vander Ende, the Onderdonk, and the Gmelin Families. After a serious fire in 1975, local residents rallied to save the building from demolition, forming the Greater Ridgewood Historical Society. The House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and is still maintained by the GRHS. View More Facts →
